How to become a "Cannabis Nurse"
A cannabis nurse is a licensed, registered, or advanced practice nurse who specializes in the medical use of cannabis. Their role includes educating patients on cannabis therapy, developing personalized treatment plans, monitoring patient outcomes, and ensuring legal and regulatory compliance. They stay informed about the latest research and collaborate with other healthcare providers to integrate cannabis effectively into patient care.
Understanding the endocannabinoid system (ECS), different types of cannabinoids (e.g., THC, CBDA), and how they interact with the body is crucial.
The ACNA is leading the charge when it comes to gaining cannabis nursing credentialing (sometimes referred to as "certified"). We invite you along the journey as a member! Our next step is to identify a testing organization willing to work with the ACNA. Our previous Credentialing Committee Chair, Deanna Sommers, has had multiple meetings to explore all options for Cannabis Nurses.
We invite you to read the Cannabis Nurse Scope and Standards to learn more about how nurses, at all levels, can include cannabis therapeutics in their practice.
More updates on credentialing coming soon!
